Enjoy exceptional views of nebulae with your Celestron Origin using this Hα-Hβ-OIII filter. This filter allows for high transmission of light wavelengths in emission nebulae, while simultaneously blocking other wavelengths that could compromise image quality and detail. The result is vibrant, colorful images. Perfect for imaging emission nebulae such as the North America Nebula (NGC 7000), Lagoon Nebula (M8), Orion Nebula (M42), Carina Nebula (NGC 3372) and many others.
How does the Nebular Filter for Origin work? Emission nebulae primarily emit discrete wavelengths of light: Hα at 656nm, Hβ at 486nm, and OIII at 496/501nm. By strategically transmitting only these wavelengths of light and blocking the rest of the spectrum the filter dramatically reduces the effects of light pollution. Being a narrowband filter, it blocks much of the visible spectrum and only lets these specific wavelengths through. Therefore you should not use this filter when observing or imaging objects with broadband emission, such as galaxies and star clusters.
You will immediately notice greater contrast in images, especially in polluted places such as in cities or urban environments. You'll also notice an improvement in contrast in images of nebulae from darker skies, as the filter works well at blocking the sky's natural background glow.
Other similar imaging filters on the market have much narrower passbands at Hα-Hβ-OIII wavelengths. Unfortunately, these filters block much of the incoming light from Hα-Hβ-OIII for an f/2.2 optical system like the Origin's RASA 6″. This is because a RASA causes the light to converge into the filter at a narrower angle causing a spectral shift. If you use filters not explicitly designed for use at f/2.2, some of the light from the nebula will be blocked resulting in a softer, less contrasty image.
The filter features a black anodized machined aluminum cell with a serrated edge for easy grip. We also added anti-reflection coatings to suppress reflections on the glass. The filter fits directly into the filter drawer in the front cell of the Celestron Origin's lens. No additional adapter is needed.
Each filter is tested individually to verify its performance. In fact, together with the filter you will receive a spectral transmission graph of your specific purchased specimen.
